If it were my painting, I'd probably play with some ideas in Photoshop before I'd take a step and possibly ruin it (since you've already taken a digital photo of it, this should be easy.) Maybe some vertical element, put in an asymetrical way to break up the strong horizontals? I'm not suggesting it break through the orange bands, though.

There's a lot to like jp. I like the stark simplicity of the composition; the painting is all about the colors and big shapes. I might like it even more if some of the lower section was croppped. That way the composition would center on the great expanse of sky. My other suggestion is one that I'm less confident in, so give it some consideration before you go and ruin your painting because of what I'm thinking. I might like to see more gradation in the sky. I like that you have gradation going from the top left to the right bottom. I'm thinking even more change in tone from top to bottom would be good, especially as you near the horizon. As you look to the horizon you look through a thicker layer of atmosphere and the color changes. Sometimes it's a lighter, neutral shade with less blue than the color overhead. Towards sunset when you look to the east (as you might be in your piece), the sky deepens toward purples along the horizon. This is the penumbra of the shadow of the earth coming up as the sun goes below the horizon. But please don't turn your painting to mud trying to follow my ideas. Is it pastel or acrylic?

Oops, I accidently deleted the photo of my unfinished painting and my initial post. I thought the little circle with an "x" in it was to enlarge the image, but one click and "poof", it was gone! Oh well, I guess there's no point in posting it again now.

Sure, any advice from those with more experience with glazing than I would be appreciated. I've only recently gotten into the technique for my studio work and there's much to learn. I've been happy with Liquin for a medium; it dries quickly enough (usually less than a day) that I don't feel too bogged down waiting for the next step. It's really quite a magical process, getting colors that would otherwise be impossible to achieve. I hope to finish Maya this week and perhaps bring her up to the Portsmouth Arts Guild's Portraits and Figures show.

Maya is so regal and your rendering suits her perfectly.
She should glow from the inside out, so if you can accomplish that, it will make the painting. At which stage should you stop? I wish I could say. SO many times I've said to myself, "Why, WHY didn't you stop sooner...?"
Among the 60 plus in our network, I'm sure there are some who are really familiar with glazing technique. If you like, I could put a note in a prominent place on the main page putting out a call for glazing mavens? Just let me know.
