Create Rhode Island

A meeting place for Ocean State Artists

The creation of Jan's Salon de Refuse' at the Abstraction II Exhibit was fantastic and a stroke of genius. i guess i love the idea of Art History being repeated. i have offered him two bottles of wine to serve if he repeats it for the Member's Exhibit. I also think if an artist gets a work sold because of being exhibited there that Jan deserves a commission.
A lot of work is not shown because of the required characteristics of a juried exhibit. i think a Salon de Refuse' would induce more artists to invest the time and cost to enter (and maybe join the Guild) if ther work was going to be be exhibited. Maybe a future Renior or Monet would benifit from Jan's idea if history repeats itself.
i feel no shame in having a work in the Salon since i believe no artist's effort should be labeled unsuccessful. We all develop our scales of 1 to 10 according to many factors of life experiences (education, opportunities, etc.) and juror is such a person also.
i hope others (especially the BOD of the PAG who can spread the word at meetings, etc) help get other volunteers to help Jan repeat this effort for future PAG juried shows.

Well said, Jay, and I will try to do this for the members show if the spaces are still available. Thanks for your kind comments. Copy Eric your blurb for publication to all members...see how others feel about this. Most will never see your comments here.

Right. I just checked and saw Eric was not listed in this PAG group. I will also talk to him at the Education Committe meeting next week. Messaged John Paul on facebook and he said he would donate some food. i would also help by "watching the store" while you visited the main exhibition.

There are still a fair number of pieces that were hung at the Salon des Refusés which haven't been picked up yet. Some artists might not have known that Jan's show was a one night deal. This is one drawback to a great idea.

You are right. i would have taken mine home that night if i realised that. i better get mine tonight if he is at meeting or open. the only time i get to portsmouth is for general meetings and ed comm. meetings. i thought he was keeping them for the length of the exhibit.
