About Me:
I honestly can't remember a time when art wasn't a part of my life. I hesitated for a long time to call myself an "artist", mainly because I don't make a living with my artwork. I do it mostly for myself, but I'm interested in exploring the possibilities of taking my work more seriously. I am a Museum Educator, and I am currently teaching a class at my Museum on Saturday mornings.

Please also visit my website for my upcoming courses being offered at the Learning Connection, Wickford Art Association, South County Art Association, and the Portsmouth Arts Guild. Thanks!

No, I don't think you need to narrow your focus. Whatever you love, do it. Most artists I know who work in multiple medias (like oils and watercolors, etc.) say that working in one enriches their knowledge in the other [media].

And adults often hold a belief that they "can't draw, can't paint, etc." so when they find out they CAN do it, it opens up new possiblities in their lives. Children are lucky in that they are not afraid to try and fail-they don't carry the burden of those negative beliefs that most adults do. It is wonderful that you help adults to experience the joy of creating!

I'd say you master a greater variety of media than I! WoW! I love your "Art Affair" idea (on your website), very creative!

Thanks! I did research on what they look like and it's strange... the way they look. Now I'm into representing the knots 3D in the paintings. You have to be with them to see the 3D.

my blog is http://daubdujour.blogspot.com/

I have a simple palette with some favourite satellite colours. I've put the blog address above so you can have a look.

For starting out, I'd choose at least 7 oils that have linseed oil base, a bottle of Drying Linseed Oil, and a small bottle of Distilled English Turpentine. Plus a range of brushes, small and medium Rounds, several Flats, and several Filberts - all of varying sizes. A good part of starting in any new medium is practice: to control and experiment with how the paint works. I don't use much turpentine at all, just the paint and the Drying Linseed Oil.

I'm afraid I'm writing this through a migraine, so I hope some of it is coherent.

Hi Dawn, yes I do...though classes have already started...I was trying to get into teaching at South County for the summer but I missed the deadline...though I may offer something over that way through myself...maybe we could meet and talk sometime on what would work for you...there may be something up by you that would get you going, I'll see what I can work up and get back to you
