As I always say, you can always make it better next time. The drawing part you'll get better overtime. The important factor is: you are really learning how to use the technique well. Good job!

great. How about 10:30 am? at the bagel place (forgot name) on Hope Street (between State and Court) across the street from The Bellvue Condo's, Hope Gallery and Bristol Art Gallery. my grandson plays ice hockey at Portsmouth Abbey @2PM so that is all that is on my calendar Saturday. i have added a goatee since i painted my self portrait i use for profile photo. so just look for 6', 185 lb, old guy w/short hair (no hat) and goatee.

well i am trying again here at comments since the message center is not working. i have alot to tell you about retirement and following a second carreer in art and my transition from engineering. i am not surprised by your engineeering background after seeing your work and what you say about your methods. i hope i can have coffee with you someday in Bristol to talk about it. you could pick a worse place than Bristol to retire. i wish i lived there but i can not move my wife away from granddchildren that are closer to us in Barrington. i probably could tell you about more benefits of the artistic atmosphere, networking and institutions in Bristol because of the time i spend there.

i started in charcoal and oils but only did a few portraits in those mediums. i then got hooked on ancient mediums (encaustic, egg tempera, casein, etc,) and only did some miniature old master copies to illustrate some narrative works with them. i have gotten into pastels over the last 2years and can't stop using this medium. have done about 30 pastel portraits including 2 commissions. my grandchildren make excellent models and i have made 8 old master portrait copies. the old masters copies are great to practice techniques with. i try to get the same effects and palette they acheived with oil and brush strokes employing pastel and drawing techniques. great challenge.
